Spectators at Whitley Park were treated to a seven goal thriller as Cramlington edged Wallsend with a late goal to lift the 2017 Cubs Cup.
The two junior sides took to the pitch at Whitley Park on Sunday morning with Wallsend kicking off the first-half.
The first chance of the game fell to Tom Wales of Wallsend, whose shot went inches wide of the post in just the 2nd minute of the game.
Cramlington Juniors got themselves into gear after a shaky start with three back-to-back corners before finally forcing the first goal of the game through a stunning Albe Fletcher long range strike which nestled into the top corner of the goal.
In the 17th minute Cramlington struck again, this time Daniel Waldon scoring as the team in red and white dominated the play for most of the first-half. The score was 2-0 at half-time with Cramlington taking their chances well.
Cramlington picked up where they left off following the break and applied early pressure on the Wallsend defense, hitting the post in the process.
Their efforts and resilience was rewarded with a third goal on the 36th minute from Noah Millington, which seemingly put the tie to bed.
Wallsend then scored two back to back goals in the 37th minute; Dennis Tapping scoring both which allowed the boys in green to get right back into the tie.
With the new found confidence gained from scoring two goals, Wallsend pushed for an equaliser. However, Tapping could only hit the post in the 45th minute and was unable to claim his hat-trick.
Luke Marr then scored from a corner on 48 minutes to make the scoreline 3-3 and looked to have forced the game into extra-time.
However, heartbreak for Wallsend followed just two minutes before the end of the game when Callum Lee got the winning goal for Cramlington which stopped any chance of an Istanbul style comeback in the Cubs Cup Final.
Cramlington went away with the 2017 Cubs Cup but both teams can be proud of an excellent display of football and great determination over the 60 minutes of play at Whitley Park.
