MATCH PREVIEW | FA County Youth Cup: Northumberland FA v Norfolk FA
Northumberland FA will take on Norfolk FA tomorrow (25 November, 11am KO) in the Third Round of the FA County Youth Cup after a comfortable 3-0...
The visitors will travel over 266 miles to reach Whitley Park, where they will be eager to progress following last year’s exit to Leicestershire & Rutland FA at the same stage.
Players such as goalkeeper Callum Harley are just a handful of players to have been in and around the Northern League the past few years, and with Northumberland FA U18’s it gives them a platform to impress on a national stage.
Manager Kane Wears trains with the under-18 squad every other Monday and is pleased that his coaching philosophies have transferred to his squad and believes that his team can go all the way in the competition.
“We have a group that isn’t just technically good enough but physically good,” explained Wears.
“A lot of the players play in the Northern League or the Northern Alliance because they are so close to being in an academy.
“Tactically, we are really up to speed with what we set out in training sessions and they have been different class.”
In the build up to the Norfolk FA fixture, Wears has putting his scouting credentials to good use by keeping tabs on his players as well as travelling down south to watch his opponents play.
“Me and the rest of my staff will go and watch my players at their colleges every Wednesday and every Saturday at their clubs as well,” added Wears.
“We need to be adaptable to the team we are playing; we are changing our whole style of play against Norfolk.
“We have a report and we know what our strengths are but we also know how to counter on their weaknesses.”
The match kicks off at 11am and the teams will battle for a Fourth Round spot, which will be played later in the year.
Northumberland FA U18’s will feature the following players:
Luke Banks - Prudhoe Town Football Club
Sol Bell - Alnwick Town
