Week 4 Futsal Update
In the Woman’s League, Team Northumbria had a comfortable victory to maintain their 100% record to stay in 1st position. Chasing teams Cramlington and Blyth had mixed fortunes. Cramlington lead 5-0 at half-time in their game against Newcastle East End ‘A’, before an incredible turn-around saw the East End side score late goals to draw the game 5-5. Blyth Town Ladies had a 3-1 victory in a close game with Newcastle East End ‘B’. Blyth sit 3 points behind Team Northumbria ahead of the two sides meeting in Week 5. As well as taking the 3 points, Blyth will also have to show perfect discipline to make up the 2 Respect Marks they trail Team Northumbria. Whoever does finish 1st in the league stage will take the leagues No1 spot in the FA Futsal Cup semi-final event. Week 6 and 7 play-offs will decide the 2014 NFA Woman’s Futsal Champion and determine who receives the leagues 2nd spot into the FA Futsal Cup.
In the men’s league, Week 4 saw the lowest scoring game week so far with both games being tight affairs. League leaders Newcastle East End remain top after victory over Bishop. A very close first-half saw East End take a slim 1-0 lead into the break. The second-half saw 7 goals fly in with East End always staying narrowly in front to complete a 5-3 win. Currys/PC World FC remain hot on East End’s heels after a 6-3 victory over Aye Gibb to stay just 1 point off top spot. Week 5 sees Newcastle East End and Currys/PC World meet for a second time in what is a potential league decider. Victory for East End would see them crowned champions and qualify into the FA Futsal Cup.
