Week 3 Futsal Update
In the Woman’s League, Team Northumbria continue to lead the way with a 3rd successive victory. Blyth Town Ladies and Cramlington Women remain hot on the chase however as they sit just 3 points behind after both recording Week 3 victories themselves.
The woman’s league has 2 league weeks remaining. The league will then have two play-off weeks to determine the 2014 NFA Woman’s Futsal Champions. Week 1 of the play-offs will see a round robin between the 4th, 5th, and 6th place league finishers. The winners of this round robin will qualify for Finals Night. Week 2 of the play-offs will see two semi-finals involving the league’s top 3 finishers, and the winner of the play-off round robin event. The winners of the semi-finals will play for the 2014 NFA Woman’s Futsal League trophy in a grand final.
The Woman’s League has been awarded 2 qualifying spots for the Woman’s FA Futsal Cup Semi-Final event. The Play-off Final winner will take spot 1. Spot 2 will be awarded to the highest placed team from the league after Week 5 (not including the Play-Off final winner).
In the men’s league, we saw a dramatic opening game to week 3. League leaders Newcastle East End came from behind twice in the closing stages to take a point against bottom of the table Aye Gibb. Aye Gibb lead 5-4, before East End seemingly turned the game around with a 5th goal for themselves. Aye Gibb responded however and took a 6-5 lead with 5 minutes remaining. East End were not beaten though as they scored an equaliser with quick counter attack to tie the game 6-6 with little time remaining on the clock. Currys/PC World FC took advantage of the 2 points dropped by Newcastle East End by recording a 9-4 victory over Bishop to leave them just 1 point behind the league leaders at the halfway stage of the competition.
Only the league winners of the men’s competition will qualify for the Regional Finals event of the FA Futsal Cup.
